Ronnie Cardwell

Ronnie Cardwell is an avid photographer. He thrives upon the ability to "be in the right place at the right time" in order to freeze one small part of time in his camera frame. He waits patiently for Mother Nature to become his model, and he makes sure he is ready when she does decide to honor him with her beauty. Ronnie Cardwell
Travel is a major component of Ronnie's life. His travel over his home state of Louisiana has revealed many of the hidden wonders of both nature and city. History abounds within the boundaries of Louisiana - from the rolling hills of North Louisiana, to the deltas, to the swamps of South Louisiana. The diversity of flora and fauna, culture and customs and topography of landscapes is astonishing. Although the photographic composition of his work is predominantly in Louisiana settings, extensive travel opportunities spice his photo gallery with the underwater wonders of the Caribbean Sea and the awesome natural beauty of national parks countrywide. His photographs reveal both the wonders of Mother Nature and the culture and excitement of the city. Ronnie has the profound talent to make this diversity tangible for all who view his photographs. His utilization of lighting and color bring life to his work and warmth to the viewer's heart.
Ronnie was born in Waco, Texas, in 1954. While he was still young, his family moved to Ruston, Louisiana. His hometown of Ruston contributes to the diversity of Louisiana with its notoriety for peaches, outstanding institutions of higher learning, and excelling sports teams. He has no formal education or training in the field of photography. His knowledge of photography has been gathered from extensive reading and studying the works of the masters. The works of Ansel Adams are his guideline for success in his photographic endeavors. Ronnie's great admiration for Ansel Adams' work led him to travel to Yosemite National Park where he made special effort to stand in many of the same spots in which Adams stood when creating his artwork years ago.
Ronnie's formal education is in forestry for which he holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana Tech University. He is a lifetime member of the Louisiana Forestry Association, Ducks Unlimited and the Wild Turkey Federation. He is also a member of the North American Nature Photography Association. His work was chosen for the honor of the 2002 Antique Tractor Festival poster. His experience in the field of forestry over the last twenty-five years and his passion for travel have afforded him unlimited opportunities for expanding his interest in photography. Having spent the majority of his adult life working with and around nature allows him a unique understanding of how to "be in the right place at the right time."
