JazzyStuff.com - New Orleans and Gulf Coast Artists

Harriet Blum is a native of Philadelphia who has lived in Louisiana since 1971. While working in another occupation, Harriet discovered her knack for photography and has made a living on her craft ever since.

"Many artists create art from a blank canvas or a chunk of clay. For me, the art is first in 'seeing' something special, whether it is as mundane as rotting boards on a house, or as beautiful as the landscape in a swamp. After 'seeing' that special something, I record it on film. Only then do I have an idea of where that 'moment in time' will take me."
"Most recently, I've been capturing landscapes, flora and architecture with black and white infrared film and hand coloring them with transparent oils and pencils to add my perceptions to already pleasing photographs. By taking the artistic license to color as I please, I can make a scene feel dreamy, calm, vibrant or even other worldly. I lean towards stirring feelings of peace and serenity, because I strive for those feelings and want to be surrounded by art that fosters that consciousness. The final product is like a template that brings order to my inner being just by 'seeing' it."
